When picking your mulch, decide on the benefits you are looking for.
Is it to add beauty?
Enrich the soil?
Control the soils temperature?
Or to minimize weeds?
Mulch is a great way to help improve moisture in the soil to prevent plants from drying out too fast. One of the most common uses of mulch is to prevent the growth of weeds. Mulching also encourages earth worm activity, improving the tilth and nutrients of the soil.
We have several types of mulch available. Our single, double and triple ground are all natural and are recommended for agricultural purposes or spaces. They also improve the soil as it decomposes. Our jet black, vivid red and chocolate brown contain eco-friendly dye that are better for decorative or curb appeal. Both types of mulches discourage weed growth.
Mulching in the beginning of spring helps keep moisture in the soil for new or young plants. Mulching in the fall can help protect your plants and roots from being damaged in the upcoming cold and frost and maintain the soils moisture during the dry winter season.
To get the best benefits, typically a 3-4 inch depth is best. In shady spots however, 1-2 inches is enough to get the same results. If mulch is laid too thin, it will not be able to provide its intended benefits. If laid too thick, it may not allow moisture to penetrate the soil, which can increase the chance of rotting and nesting for pests.
